Are Japanese Bento products labeled BPA Free?
As parents, we are always concern whether what we buy for our kids to use are safe to use. One of these concerns is whether our range of bento accessories imported from Japan are BPA Free.
Bisphenol A (BPA) is a chemical commonly used in the production of plastics and resins, often found in food containers and packaging. There is a growing concern over BPA's potential health risks, such as hormonal disruptions and increased cancer risk in many countries such as the United States and the European Union. This has led to stringent regulations and a widespread shift towards BPA-free products.
However, "BPA-free" label is not a mandatory requirement for products in Japan. Japanese manufacturers have been using different can-lining technologies and resins that do not rely on BPA, long before international concerns about BPA peaked. As a result, the risk of BPA leaching into food products in Japan is considered to be much lower.
In short, Japanese products without a BPA-Free label does not mean that they are not BPA-free, but because it is not a mandatory requirement to have such labels on their products. What's important is using the products according to the instructions - eg, whether the products are microwavable, dishwasher safe etc.
